Madrid fashion week, one of Spain’s most prestigious shows, is banning underweight models on the basis of their body mass index (BMI). I think that this is really wonderful and I hope that it is a trend that spreads. We are not talking about just very thin people here, but rather unhealthily thin women that are being literally paraded around saying “This is sexy. This is stylish.” I’m not against thin models. I am so against large numbers of too-thin models that give the sense that “this is the normal, and cool and sexy, way to look. Starve yourself. It’s hot.” You can read about it on BBC here.
This is him. He moved in with us yesterday with his brothers Theo and Finnius who are both black too. But Emerson, as we call him, is the biggest and scaredest and tries to be the most ferocious. More pictures to come. They were found as strays in Newton. The woman who we got them from portrayed them as wild monsters and we were afraid they were going to be bad biters, but they aren’t at all. Emerson scratches, but Finnius mostly shivers and looks scared and his two bigger brothers cuddle him and protect him. We got a little light that gives off heat and put it over a little kitten bed – that’s where they slept last night. Finnius may already have a potential home, but Theo and Emerson will go as a pair if you are thinking of adopting two beautiful black kittens. They will probably be ready in a few weeks. Finnius needs to to go the doctor – he has no eye whiskers and it looks like his face whiskers have fallen out and are growing back in. And one eye is not looking good. We hope he will be just fine, but not clear at this point….
I’m trying Google ads on this blog – every 1 cent helps, right? However, to my great horror an ad came up about seeking God’s help with homosexuality. I’m pretty sure that this is not the kind of “help you to be more comfortable with yourself no matter how you understand your sexuality and know that God loves you no matter what and homosexuality is absolutely okay” sort of ad that I would want, if any. So I need to check and see if there is a way to keep such offensive stuff from showing up on the blog or else they are going to have to go. So just a warning – right now I cannot control what comes up. I’ll keep you updated on how it works. I got the idea from The Happy Feminist who is going to put ads on her blog too and I thought – hey, why not? Plus, THF is such a great blog. I just wanted to throw that in. Reminds me to put more about feminism on here.
